Circa late 18th/early 19th century Toile Whole Cloth Quilt.

An exotic pictorial print of unknown location, possibly a representation of Africa or the Caribbean or other distant place that had been reported back to the Continent by explorers. Produced by an English or French factory in the late 18th or early 19th century. The printed images are scenes of Indians, tropical foliage, spotted jungle cats, etc. images unknown to most people except explorers during that time. A similar print in a whole cloth was included in the recent Metropolitan Museum exhibition on global textiles, dating from the 1770s and in the same rosy color.
