1870 Red and White Quilt Jacket (S/M)

This jacket is made from a c. 1870-1880 "Rob Peter to Pay Paul" Quilt from Robbinston Maine. Hand quilted in red and white. Dand stitched except for the red binding which was machine stitched by a treadle machine.

Signed by its maker with a hand stitched "L" in the corner.

Made to fit a 3/4 size bed, which were commonly used in the late 1800s. Thus, this quilt was designed with a cranberry red color on two sides  to hang over the bed and a lighter red on top to sit atop the bed.

 

Boxy fit. Cropped.

Five front buttons.

Two waist patch pockets.

One chest pocket with button flap.

Dry clean only.

Size small/medium 24" front body length, a 23" back body length, a 18" shoulder, a 45" chest, and a 31" sleeve length.

 

Each textile bares marks of the past. All signs of wear, character, stains and mending are reminders of its' history, and original to every carefully curated and preserved textile. Hand made in California.
