This jacket is made from an early-mid 20th Century Kyrgyz wall hanging. Hand-embroidered silk on a canvas backing. These textiles, originally from Kyrgyzstan, were used for different purposes including decorative wall-hangings, coverings for the front entrances of yurts, or ceremonial wedding celebrations. The images depicted are all symboic and austiccious. For example, circles of flowers are symbolic of the sun and each flower has eight petals to represent prosperity and material wealth.
