This workwear jacket was made from a West African decorative mudcloth.
This mud cloth was made by a family in the western part of africa, where there hand dye and stitch these decorative pieces. It is a centuries old, hand-dyed textile art that originated in West Africa, then was popularized throughout other parts of the globe.
Authentic mud cloth takes two to three weeks to make by applying one to two coats of color-rich mud to undyed cloth. The patterns in the authentic creations often have names and meanings that are rich in history.
