This jacket is made from a midweight navy corduroy with appliqué from a late 1800's log cabin quilt. It emulates the style of vintage workwear with a 'boxy' blazer fit and front patch pockets. The quilt pieces come from a log cabin quilt top from Kansas City, Missouri. Used as a decorative piece for years due to its beautiful rich earth tones, assorted design, and aged quality.
The Log Cabin block consists of light and dark fabric strips representing the walls of a log cabin, with a red center patch representign the hearth of fire.
History:
Quilt historians found that the Log Cabin design became popular in 1863, when the Union army was raising money for the Civil War by raffling quilts. This piece was likely to be one of these raffled quilts.
