Boroboro Throw Pillow
This pillow is made from a centuries old Japanese Boro cloth. Packed with layers upon layers of patched and "Sashiko Mending". Most likely originally used as a futon cover.
A Word on Japanese Boro: Derived from the Japanese "boroboro", meaning something tattered or repaired. The practice of reworking and repairing textiles [clothes or bedding] through piecing, patching and stitching. A form of recycling coming from an economic necessity to preserve the usability. Due to the repetition of reworking, it’s likely that little of the originally bedding is still present, or more likely, is hidden underneath the layers of patches. This textile tells the history of many lifetimes of family.
