American Colonial era (circa 18th century) red glazed wool whole cloth quilt. Calimancos are glazed-wool quilts. The glazed surface is a result of starch, egg white, and/or heat and pressure application. The worsted cloth that comprises the face of this quilt was likely imported from England in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. The glaze is light, but still present ~ this textile is backed in a cotton cloth, natural and unbleached. The edges are trimmed in a moss green silk. There is a light cotton batting between the layers.
